The aircraft cabin has become a decisive factor in commercial aviation. Next generation cabin systems must meet the challenges of eco-efficiency without reducing comfort and services. Consequently, current research activities of the institute are focusing on concepts for a cabin core system with advanced information and communication interfaces, on energy supply and conversion, and on the assessment of emerging technologies from non-aviation sectors for possible use in the cabin. Today, cabin process chains with passengers, cabin crew, baggage, catering and freight are strongly interlaced with ground services and maintenance on airports. Therefore the institute also investigates these interfaces with the aim of an improved and more seamless link into the aircraft cabin.
