In the fields of guidance of aircraft and air traffic management the DLR Institute
of Flight Guidance focuses on operational methods (procedures, techniques),
technology development and human oriented automation. Long-term engineering
research, development and validation prior to industrial commercialization
are carried out. The institute develops and evaluates concepts,
technical solutions and procedures for air traffic management and the airport
including the movement area. The main topics comprise onboard as well as
ground based air traffic support systems, an optimal onboard-ground integration,
the validation of system concepts and the optimisation of the human-machine interface.
The primary goal of all research and development efforts is to improve the compatibility
with users and the environment, the capacity, the
efficiency, as well as safety and security.
